After stopping by Toronto International Film Festival and Cannes within the last year, each presenting different versions, it looks like The Weinstein Company has finally settled on how The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby will be shown to the public. We broke down all three versions here, with the wider September release being a single feature that screened at Cannes and the limited release the next month, taking the form of the two separate films that initially premiered at TIFF.
Today, the first trailer has landed for the former, truncated version that most will get the chance to see. Directed by Ned Benson, the drama explores relationship between the characters of James McAvoy and Jessica Chastain, with the original version being separate films telling each side of their respective stories. Will it be as effective as a single film? It’s certainly a great teaser, so our fingers are crossed. One can check it out below for the film also starring Nina Arianda, Viola Davis, Bill Hader, Ciarán Hinds, Isabelle Huppert, William Hurt and Jess Weixler.
Once happily married, Conor (McAvoy) and Eleanor (Chastain) suddenly find themselves as strangers longing to understand each other in the wake of tragedy. The film explores the couple’s story as they try to reclaim the life and love they once knew and pick up the pieces of a past that may be too far gone.
The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby opens on September 12th, while the separate versions arrive on Oct. 10th.
