Hollywood has been flush with post-apocalyptic stories, but only recently have the stories started focusing on smaller units. Following in the footsteps of last year’s Z For Zachariah, Stephen Fingleton‘s The Survivalist centers on a trio of people struggling to survive in the wake of a famine. Unlike the picture-perfect leads of Z For Zachariah, these characters have all been pushed through the emotional grinder. They’re gaunt, paranoid, and only a step above feral.

Martin McCan is the titular survivalist, a tribal lone wolf whose face is evidence of years of a hardscrabble life. When an elderly woman and her teenage relative come knocking on his door, he reluctantly allows them to stay. But as the trailer shows, he may have been better off remaining a loner. Also starring Mia Goth, Andrew Simpson, Olwen Fouere, and Douglas Russel, watch the trailer below, and read our review here.
