Shooting began around Schenectady, NY this week on Derek Cianfrance’s Blue Valentine follow-up, The Place Beyond the Pines and we already have our first look at a bleached-blond, tattooed Ryan Gosling. He stars in the film alongside Bradley Cooper, Eva Mendes, Greta Gerwig, Ray Liotta, and Ben Mendelsohn.

We already got a look at Gosling’s upcoming The Ides of March last night with the trailer debut, and the star also has Crazy, Stupid, Love. and Drive coming, both of which I highly recommend. I loved Blue Valentine and this looks like a big step up in budget and scope, as Gosling plays “a motorcycle stunt rider who considers committing a crime in order to provide for his wife and child, an act that puts him on a collision course with a cop-turned-politician,” played by Cooper. Check out the photos below via DailyMail and some video via WTEN and CBS6.

With the announcement of Andrea Arnold‘s Fish Tank follow-up Wuthering Heights playing at Venice Film Festival, we also have our first look at the drama. Based on Emily Bronte‘s classic novel, the film stars James Howson as Heathcliff (seen below), as well as Kaya Scodelario, Steve Evets, Oliver Milburn, and Nicola Burley. Check it out below via Rope of Silicon.

Synopsis:

The story follows a Yorkshire hill farmer on a visit to Liverpool who finds a homeless boy on the streets. He takes him home to live as part of his family on the isolated Yorkshire moors where the boy forges an obsessive relationship with the farmer’s daughter.

The Place Beyond the Pines will open in 2012 while Wuthering Heights has yet to set a release date, but look for Venice reviews in early September.
