One of the biggest success stories coming out of last year’s Sundance was J.C. Chandor‘s Margin Call, which took the writer/director 15 years to bring to screen. With that film going on to have a healthy VOD and theatrical life, along with an Oscar nomination, thankfully it’s not taking as long for his next project to be completed.
In fact, it has actually wrapped production and now we’ve got the first still above thanks to Deadline. Titled All Is Lost, the film follows Robert Redford (who Chandor met at Park City and wrote the film specifically for) who gets lost at sea and must battle the treacherous elements to stay alive. Shot at Mexico’s Baja Studios, best known for its use in Titanic and Pearl Harbor, it’s looking like it won’t be an easy battle for the 75-year-old actor.
Not many other details are known, but it’s certainly clear that Chandor is taking his sophomore effort in a very different direction. He’ll re-team with his Margin Call star Zachary Quinto and his Before the Door production company. Reportedly featuring no other cast members, Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions have teamed for a US release likely next year and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a Sundance premiere.
