After going through what must have been a life-draining process directing The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Hard Candy helmer David Slade has been taking it easy directing an episode here and there of Breaking Bad, Awake and the upcoming Hannibal. He may be getting back into features, as THR reports he’s lined up a potential project.
Disney has set the director on another young adult novel series, one titled Matched, from author Ally Condie. The trilogy (also including Crossed and Reached, the latter set to be released this November), follows a sort of proposed marriage system in a dystopian future where a young woman falls for someone she isn’t supposed to be with. Adapted by Sherlock Holmes: A Games of Shadows scribes Kieran and Michelle Mulroney, I sincerely hope this one has more to offer in than that above synopsis. But with reports indicating Slade got the gig based on his “ability to balance teen angst and action” in the Twilight series, it doesn’t give me hope.

Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander’s face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate . . . until she sees Ky Markham’s face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.
The Society tells her it’s a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she’s destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can’t stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society’s infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she’s known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.
Are you looking forward to seeing Slade return to the director’s chair?
