Bursting onto the scene with the adrenaline-fueled, love-it-or-hate-it actioner Crank, the directing/writing duo of Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor seemed inseparable. They have since gone on to direct a sequel to the Jason Statham vehicle, as well as write the studio tentpole Jonah Hex and craft a follow-up to Nicolas Cage‘s Ghost Rider. For an upcoming project, however, one of the directors will ride solo.

According to Variety, Neveldine is lining up his first unaccompanied directing gig with a thriller titled The Vatican Tapes for Lakeshore. It’s been nearly three years since we last reported on the project that once had Man on Wire‘s James Marsh set to helm.

Written by a Chris Borrelli, the supernatural thriller centers on a series of events that unfold after a tape gets leaked from the Vatican displaying an exorcism that goes wrong. The non-stop onslaught of such films would normally have me tired to hear of another entry to the genre, but thanks to Neveldine’s utter inventiveness behind the camera, consider me intrigued for this project.

Are you looking forward to seeing a exorcism film from Neveldine?
