Oh Courtney.
Most of the recent news items involving the former front woman of Hole/Golden Globe-nominated actress of The People vs. Larry Flynt have been on the gossip pages, detailing brawls, bawls, and accusations. But Courtney Love is still enough of a star that she gets invited to major events like the Scream 4 after party, where she spoke to Showbiz 411 about the long-rumored Nirvana movie.
Apparently Love is still looking to make a film about her late husband’s band, though it may focus more on her and Kurt Cobain’s relationship than on the life and times of Nirvana. She revealed that David Benioff has crafted a script she likes, and admitted that she’d like to see X-Men: First Class’ James McAvoy as Kurt and the sultry Scarlett Johansson as Courtney. Uh huh.
Showbiz admits there’s no one attached to direct or produce this would-be biopic, and I have to say I have little faith that this project will get off the ground. First off, there’s no actual quote from Love, so who knows how articulate she was about her proposed picture. Secondly, the screenwriter she brags about has adapted some well-received movies (25th Hour, The Kite Runner) but he’s also credited on the deeply awful X-Men Origins: Wolverine and the weak American remake Brothers. And if Love is attached in any capacity, I can’t imagine too many producers will be eager to sign on with the notorious wild child on board. I do admire her casting choices though. I mean, if you’re going to produce a movie about your life why not give yourself a major upgrade?
