Out of all the properties that Hollywood is aiming to reboot, we were surprised when they selected to redo the 2001 Christian contemporary film Left Behind, but even more shocking was the choice of lead actor in Nicolas Cage. Our devout moviegoers may be pleased to know that things are moving forward as the ensemble is now being rounded out.
According to Deadline, Ashley Tisdale (Scary Movie 5, High School Musical) joins the remake of the theological thriller starring Cage and Chad Michael Murray (House of Wax, A Cinderella Story) is also circling. Tisdale will play Chloe Steele, daughter of Ray Steele (Cage), while Murray is expected to reprise the role of the investigative journalist Buck Williams, which was played by Kirk Cameron in the original.
The film is helmed by Hollywood stuntman legend Vic Armstrong, who directed 1993’s Army of One starring Dolph Lundgren and recently worked on Thor and The Amazing Spider-Man. The script is penned once again by Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim LaHaye, co-authors of the Left Behind series of novels of the same name, which focuses on Tisdale’s character Chloe, who is looking for her family in a post raptured world where all those of Christian faith have been removed for the Earth.
Barring any kind of apocalypse, Left Behind is expected to be released sometime in 2014.
What do you think of these cast additions? Did you see the original?
