After Columbia led Bennett Miller‘s baseball drama Moneyball to critical acclaim, awards glory and audience approval, they’ve done the smart move and picked up the Capote director’s next film, which is just getting into production in Pittsburgh. Announced in a press release today, the studio revealed they will release the Annapurna Pictures-funded Foxcatcher in the sweet spot of fall 2013, just in time for awards season.

Starring Steve Carell, Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo, Sienna Miller, Vanessa Redgrave and Anthony Michael Hall, the true story follows millionaire and schizophrenic, John du Pont, who goes on to murder Olympic gold medal-winning wrestler David Schultz. Expect Columbia to go the Moneyball route and premiere this one on the fall festival circuit, likely TIFF, before a release within the following few months.

In other release date news, Disney has announced a October 4th, 2013 release date for their sperm donor comedy The Delivery Man. Currently in production in New York, the film is a remake of the French-Canadian hit Starbuck (which will also see a US release next spring) and follows a man who is looking to reconnect with over 500 children he fathered. Starring Vince Vaughn, Cobie Smulders and Chris Pratt, the comedy will open alongside the Liam Hemsworth, Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford thriller Paranoia, as well as Robert Rodriguez‘s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.
