The Argo awards steamroll continued this weekend, as Ben Affleck‘s third directorial effort won big at both the ACE Eddie Awards (recognizing the best in film editing) as well as the Writers Guild Awards, gearing up for its likely Best Picture win. Chris Terrio‘s 1970s-set Iranian hostage drama picked up the award for Outstanding Achievement in Writing for an adapted screenplay, while William Goldenberg took home the Best Edited Feature Film in the dramatic category.
At the WGAs, Mark Boal grabbed the Outstanding Achievement in Writing for an original screenplay with his work on Zero Dark Thirty, while Malik Bendjelloul received the nod for documentary screenplay with his Searching for Sugar Man, as well as the Best Edited Documentary at the ACE Eddies. Jay Cassidy and Crispin Struthers were recognized for Silver Linings Playbook as they picked up the Best Edited Feature Film award for a comedy or musical, while Nicholas C. Smith and Robert Grahamjones grabbed Best Edited Animated Film for Pixar’s Brave.
In other recent awards, Ang Lee’s Life of Pi took home best best sounding for music in a feature film and best sound editing for dialogue and ADR in a feature film at the 60th Motion Picture Sound Editors Golden Reel Awards. Tom Hooper‘s Les Miserables won the Golden Reel for sound editing for music in a musical feature film and Sam Mendes‘ Skyfall grabbed the awards for sound editing for sound effects and Foley in a feature film.
Over on the animation side, Wreck-It Ralph got the award for sound editing for sound effects, Foley, dialogue and ADR in an animation feature film, while Last Call at the Oasis won the Golden Reel for sound editing for sound effects, Foley, dialogue, ADR and music in a feature film. Rust & Bone was also recognized, receiving the Golden Reel for sound editing for sound effects such as Foley, dialogue and ADR in a feature foreign language film. And lastly, the 49th Annual Cinema Audio Society Awards were handed out, which saw Les Miserables pick up best sound mixing for live-action and Brave grab the award for animations.
