While a great deal of documentaries seem to pass through theaters, sadly going unnoticed for the most part, The Wienstein Company is hoping to create an event out of this fall’s Salinger. Coming from director Shane Salerno (the guy that gave us the scripts for Savages, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem and Shaft), the film dives into the life of the reclusive author behind the seminal novel The Catcher in the Rye.

We’ve now got the first trailer, which amps up the mystery of his life following his last published work in 1965 before his death at age 91, just three years ago. It certainly looks like an intriguing portrait of not only what he was up to, but the influence he had. Check out the trailer and poster below for the film featuring interviews with Philip Seymour Hoffman, Edward Norton, Danny DeVito, John Guare, Martin Sheen, David Milch, Robert Towne, Tom Wolfe, E.L. Doctorow, John Cusack, Gore Vidal and over one-hundred others.

Salinger arrives on September 6th.
