After Rupert Wyatt‘s studio debut, the prequel Rise of the Planet of the Apes, surpassed expectations, 20th Century Fox was keen to get the ball rolling on a follow-up and today brings our first look. For the sequel, Wyatt stepped out, replaced by Cloverfield and Let Me In director Matt Reeves, along with many new faces.

Focusing on Caesar (Andy Serkis) as the leader of the apes, rising star Jason Clarke (Terminator: Genesis, Zero Dark Thirty) leads the human side of things, while Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Judy Greer, and more fill out supporting roles. The trailer shows off a bit of action, before leading up to a major tease and the CG looks spot-on yet again, so hopefully the story follows suit. One can check it out below, along with the poster and synopsis.

Synopsis:

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes opens on July 11th, 2014.
