After the excellent (and hilarious) noir drama-comedy Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, writer/director Shane Black jumped into major blockbuster territory with Iron Man 3, but he’s now thankfully returned to what he does best, with Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe by his side. The Nice Guys, scripted by Black and Anthony Bagarozzi, is set in LA in 1970’s and follows tough guy Jackson Healy and private detective Holland March who are working on a case involving the suicide of a porn star.
“It is an R-rated film and it’s a caper,” Black tells People. “It’s a little fast, a little funny and a little rough in places, kind of coarse. These guys are working-class dudes, they’re not really sophisticated private detectives, so it’s a chance to do the kind of thriller I don’t see too much of anymore.” Check out the red band trailer, which looks just as clever and entertaining as Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and the poster below.
The Nice Guys opens on May 20th, 2016.
