Getting the news this past fall that Michael Clarke Duncan had suddenly passed was a shock to many, with the busy actor still leaving a few roles yet to be seen. One that we would have certainly counted on would have been his return to the world of Sin City — after establishing the character of Manute back in 2005 — but sadly, it will not come to fruition.
As we know, Robert Rodriguez is gearing up for a sequel to his hit, titled Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, and now we’ve got news on who will be carrying the torch for Duncan. THR reports 24 star Dennis Haysbert will take on the character, who has an expanded role in the sequel. Rodriguez adds, “Manute is a character that has been part of the heart of the Sin City tales and the late Michael Clarke Duncan beautifully established that role on screen. We could not tell the story of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For without Manute and are thrilled to welcome Dennis Haysbert to the cast.”
This isn’t the only replacement in the cast, as Jamie Chung is stepping in for Devon Aoki, and will be joining Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Jaime King, Michael Madsen and Rosario Dawson in the ensemble. With an initial Austin production underway after things heavily kick up in January, the film is expected to open on October 4th, 2013.
Are you looking forward to seeing Haysbert in the Sin City sequel?
