Chris Pratt is about to get one huge career shift. He had a bit part in the action film Wanted, but the Parks and Recreation star is mostly known for his comedy, while showing a mix of both in this year’s Moneyball. Twitch is now reporting he could be getting a break-out role not dissimilar to Jeremy Renner‘s Oscar-nominated turn in The Hurt Locker.

Pratt is in talks to take over Kathryn Bigelow‘s Bin Laden film. Formerly going under the title Kill Bin Laden, the project has attracted names such as Joel Edgerton and Jason Clarke, but if Pratt takes the role he could join, while Guy Pearce, Tom Hardy and Idris Elba continue to circle.

The SEAL Team Six film recently got some heat from legal accusations by a New York State representative, but it is back on track for production this February. Pratt’s Andy Dwyer character in Parks & Rec makes me laugh at just the sight of him, so it will be interesting if he take on a drama like this. If you’ve seen him Moneyball then you know he can embody that all-American quality I would assume Bigelow is looking for. It would be a bold pick, but I trust a director who is usually spot-on with casting.

The untitled film will hit theaters December 19th, 2012.
