During Toronto International Film Festival this past fall we praised the small little Irish film What Richard Did and now it looks like its main talents are going on to much (much) bigger things. Its director Leonard Abrahamson recently started production on a Michael Fassbender-led music-related comedy Frank and now its star, Jack Reynor, will soon be in the world’s spotlight thanks to his next role.
According to Michael Bay himself, Reynor has been cast as the male co-lead in Transformers 4, starring alonside Mark Wahlberg. Calling him the “real deal,” Bay also chimes in on some information we already knew, saying that his latest robot-fighting blockbuster “is not a reboot” and has a “very natural transition,” picking up four years after the previous film. He also adds it “will feel very different then the last three” and they are “embarking on a new trilogy.”
As for a female lead, we previously heard rumors that The Last Airbender‘s Nicola Peltz was attached, but nothing has been confirmed (especially considering that report also indicated a different male lead, which is not the case). All in all, we can’t blame Reynor, who will be playing a biker boyfriend to the yet-to-be-cast female lead, for taking this massive payday and hopefully he uses his new leverage wisely when it comes to future projects.
Transformers 4 will open on June 27th, 2014.
