Studios have been rapidly churning out superhero films for well over a decade, but this past summer, Marvel broke new ground by giving Joss Whedon the freedom to team up their biggest characters for The Avengers. As we know, it went over well as the film grossed over $1.5 billion at the worldwide box-office. As the studio continues into the next phase, introducing new characters, Warner Bros. is feeling the pressure to deliver on the DC version with Justice League.
While there has been a variety of rumors regarding certain actors or directors being attached to the project, the only certain thing was that WB had set Will Beall on script duties. It looks like the studio is now getting cold feet, as Bad Ass Digest reports that WB has altogether thrown out Beall’s take. The reason? It’s reportedly “terrible.” Combining Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and Green Lantern doesn’t seem like an easy task, and one can’t imagine Beall’s disappointing crime team-up of Gangster Squad helped his chances.
Opinions vary on the future of the project, whether it will be scrapped altogether or they will push on, but the studio will now need an entirely new script. Reports indicate that “the script has been half-baked from the beginning and characters have been removed and added “seemingly at studio executive will.” Right now the plan is to wait and see if Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel delivers this summer, but those hoping a 2015 release is still in the cards will have to rethink their expectations.
