Joe Carnahan (Narc, The A-Team) is back early next year with his thriller The Grey, featuring Liam Neeson in the rough. We showed off the trailer last month and now an official theatrical poster has landed on Apple. The scruffy Neeson is clearly the selling point here, with his piercing blue eyes and bloodied face in the Alaskan ice. Check it out below for the film also starring Dallas Roberts, James Badge Dale, Dermot Mulroney and Frank Grillo.
Synopsis:
A group of oil-rig roughnecks are left stranded on the sub-arctic tundra after their plane experiences a complete mechanical failure and crashes into the remote Alaskan wilderness. The survivors, battling mortal injuries, biting cold and ravenous hunger, are relentlessly hunted and pursued by a vicious pack of rogue wolves.
The Grey hits theaters January 27th, 2012.
We also have the first US poster for Studio Ghibili’s excellent The Secret World of Arrietty, which seems to have gotten a title extension after the simple Arrietty; a rare thing in Hollywood after such switches with John Carter, Hugo and Tintin. I got to check out an import DVD of the animation and it is a remarkable piece of storytelling.
Based on Mary Norton‘s series of children’s novels The Borrowers it follows people who are 10 centimeters tall, living under the floorboards of a human household. When one of them comes in contact with a full-size humans, things start to unravel. Directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi, and co-written by Hayao Miyazaki, the film features a strong American voice cast including Mark Strong, Saoirse Ronan, Will Arnett, Amy Poehler, and Carol Burnett. Check it out below via Yahoo.
The Secret World of Arrietty hits theaters February 17th, 2012.
Next up we have the first US theatrical poster for Baltasar Kormákur‘s Contraband starring Mark Wahlberg. The first trailer was quite poor for what looks like a generic action flick, perfect for January dumping ground. This new poster is no different and you can see it below (via Apple) for the film also starring Kate Beckinsale, Ben Foster, Giovanni Ribisi and Lukas Haas.
Lastly, we have the first teaser poster for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D, which despite the similar title, is set to kick after the classic ended. I smell a remake thing going on with this thing. But with only this teaser poster from JoBlo, we can’t judge.
John Luessenhop, coming off Takers (which was more entertaining than it had any right being) directed this 2012 horror film. While I steer clear of most remakes in the genre, The Crazies ended up being a success, so hopefully this follows suit. Starring Alexandra Daddario, the film hits on October 5, 2012.
Which film are you most looking forward to? Which has the best poster?
