Update: The first trailer has arrived.

You’ve heard the wild and crazy stories from the cast, now it’s time for our first official look at the major players in the Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer‘s ambitious undertaking of Cloud Atlas. Based on David Mitchell‘s novel, spanning multiple time periods over a thousand years, with actors playing multiple characters, the film was selected yesterday to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and now EW has arrived just on time with these new stills.

Above one can see an image from the  “sci-fi story of a man (Tom Hanks) who meets an emissary from an advanced civilization (Halle Berry).” Then below we have a “darkly comic yarn about a composer (Jim Broadbent) and his apprentice (Ben Whishaw). “ With some test screening impressions lobbing on high praise for the film, I personally can’t wait to see how the filmmakers pull off such an epic story, especially with this high-profile cast inhabiting so many different parts. Also starring Hugo Weaving, Susan Sarandon and Hugh Grant, see the images above and below and check back for more to be unveiled later today.

Update: See all 20 new photos in the slideshow below, accompanied by what sounds to be the first piece of epic score from Reinhold Heil, Johnny Klimek and Tykwer himself, followed by the first banner.

Synopsis:

The powerful, inspiring epic Cloud Atlas explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future, as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero, and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution.

Cloud Atlas, clocking in at 164 minutes, arrives on October 26th, 2012.
