While we could give or take most remakes coming through the Hollywood pipeline, when the words “A Spike Lee Joint” are attached, it’s time to pay attention. Following his overlooked, small independent drama Red Hook Summer last year, the filmmaker jumped back into the studio system for a remake of Park Chan-wook‘s Oldboy.

FilmDistrict has now released the first poster for the film, which chronicle Josh Brolin‘s 20 long years (up from 15 in the original) in solitary confinement as an advertising executive who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment. Check it out below for the film also starring Elizabeth Olsen and Sharlto Copley.

Oldboy opens on October 11th.

Do you think Lee can live up to Park Chan-wook’s original?
