With shooting underway for Tom Hooper’s follow-up to his Oscar-winning The King’s Speech, an adaptation of Les Miserables, the first looks are coming of our large ensemble. Coming from Courier Mail, we can see Hugh Jackman below as Jean Valjean, the protagonist of this morality tale based around underclass strife. With his unkempt beard and scraggy physique, I can’t help but see comparisons to his past and future characters in The Fountain. Check it out below for the film also featuring Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Helena Bonham Carter.
Synopsis:
Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption—a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.
Les Miserables arrives on December 14th, 2012.
