Today /Film reports via THR that Marc Webb‘s 3-D Spider-Man reboot/re-imagining/update/yada-yada-yada will be seemingly nothing like the previous three film’s in Raimi’s canon, so says Columbia Pictures president, Matt Tolmach. According to /Film, Tolmach assures that technology like 3-D should be used appropriately, citing the need to “always fall back on great storytelling.” He even noted that “with great power comes great responsibility” for good measure. As for the story on Spider-Man‘s third dimension makeover, Tolmach says that he and others at Columbia Pictures “are humbled by it,” as it will “look, feel and smell different from the three films starring Tobey Maguire.”

Still in its early stages, Webb’s Spider-Man is an enigma, so any news is welcome. However, this kind of “breaking news” seems a tad redundant. I could be wrong, but the whole reasons for rebooting a project is so that it will feel, well… Different. In any case, here’s hoping Webb will be able to deliver what we loved about the first two films, and here’s more hoping that he forgot about Spider-Man 3 like the rest of us.

So how about it? Are you game for a totally different Peter Parker/Spider-Man? What direction would you like to see the web crawler take?
