Premiering at Sundance, the horror anthology V/H/S mostly scared our pants off (review here). While the majority of the shots were directed by a single person (Adam Wingard, David Bruckner, Ti West, Glenn McQuaid and Joe Swanberg), one came from the quartet Radio Silence.
The group, who came to fame through YouTube videos, is made up of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, Justin Martinez and Chad Villella. Their portion of the film was possibly the craziest and certainly the most effects-heavy, as it followed a group of people headed into a evolving haunted house on Halloween.
Vulture is now reporting on what could likely be their first feature directing project, a found-footage film titled The Reawakening. Shutter screenwriter Luke Dawson wrote the script for the film at Lionsgate that combines part of Flatliners and Frankenstein. No other details are available, but it’s interesting to see the transition of YouTube sensations to actual Hollywood projects.
Alongside top horror names, the anthology was actually a perfect stepping stone to making their first full-length feature. The found-footage genre is obviously tired, but with something breathing new life into like V/H/S, here is hoping this group can repeat that success. Check out some of their work on their YouTube page, currently racking up over 60 million views and see more of their work on October 5th, when V/H/S hits theaters.
