One of the most popular films of the century thus far, although perhaps not having anything to do with standard quality metrics, is  Tommy Wiseau’s The Room. Released nearly 15 years ago, the oddity has become a cult hit, garnering regular midnight screenings and a fanbase like few others. Now, the story of how it came to be has been made into a film by none other than James Franco.

The Disaster Artist recently came to TIFF and ahead of a December release from A24, the first full trailer has arrived. The making-of The Room tale is seen through the eyes of Greg Sestero (Dave Franco), who served as a line producer on the film and played Mark, of “oh, hi Mark” fame.

Based on the book of the same name by Sestero and Tom Bissell, The Disaster Artist features a loaded cast that includes Seth Rogen, Josh Hutcherson, Zac Efron, Aria Graynor, Jacki Weaver, Hannibal Buress, Alison Brie, Sharon Stone, Melanie Griffith, Paul Scheer, Jason Mantzoukas and boasts cameos from Bryan Cranston, Zach Braff, J. J. Abrams, David DeCoteau, Lizzy Caplan, Kristen Bell, Keegan-Michael Key, Adam Scott, Danny McBride, and the real Tommy Wiseau himself.

See the trailer below.

A delightful tribute to the joy and madness of making movies, The Disaster Artist follows the outrageous adventures of eccentric filmmaker Tommy Wiseau and his best friend, actor Greg Sestero. These two endearing misfits move to L.A. and try to live the Hollywood dream by making their very own feature film, but end up embarking on a wildly unpredictable and hilariously unforgettable production. Leading to one of the most infamous, bizarre, and beloved midnight movies of all time, The Room.
