Ned Rifle didn’t get much coverage when it played at TIFF this past fall, yet the latest film from Hal Hartley is, by most accounts, a winning effort, the sort of sequel that satisfies fans of its predecessors while covering some new ground. Before the theatrical and VOD release kicks off this spring, a stop-over at SXSW is in order — and, with that, a new trailer has just arrived.
Seeing as this reveals far more than the previous look, those hoping to enter with as little awareness as possible might wish to hold out. Otherwise, though, it’s nice to take a small dip back into Hartley’s bizarre alt-universe defined by a garbageman’s poetry, a drifter’s espionage career, and the lives between them that are torn asunder in highly comical fashion. Don’t know what I mean? Now’s the time to treat yourself and catch up with the first and second installments before Ned Rifle arrives.

Ned Rifle will open in New York City and make its way to Hartley’s site on April 1.
