Before Juan Antonio Bayona became the acclaimed director of The Impossible, he was introduced to American audiences as the helmer of the spooky 2007 Spanish/Mexican import, The Orphanage. Nearly seven years after breaking onto the scene with the Guillermo del Toro-produced film, Bayona will follow up his tsunami drama with a return to the horror genre.
Bloody Disgusting reported that Bayona will remake the 1961 British thriller Scream of Fear for Sony Pictures. The original – which was directed by Seth Holt – follows a wheelchair-bound woman who returns to her family home to look into the disappearance of her estranged father. During the investigations, she discovers his corpse in various locations, but it quickly vanishes again before anyone else can see it.
Scream of Fear isn’t the only project on Bayona’s plate – last January, Warner Bros. recruited him to direct an original sci-fi film based off a screenplay by Benjamin Button adaptor, Eric Roth.
