The 69th Golden Globes have announced their nominations and with it comes more than a few surprises. While The Artist and The Descendants lead the nominations as expected, George Clooney’s The Ides of March made a surprisingly strong showing. The political drama is one of my favorites of the year and it seems to have been forgotten, until now. It picked up noms for best dramatic picture, director, best screenplay and Ryan Gosling for actor. Gosling also got a comedy/musical actor nomination for Crazy, Stupid, Love.
Rounding out the unexpected, Brendan Gleeson also got some recognition for The Guard, while Kristen Wiig did the same for Bridesmaids. The Muppets is surprisingly absent for best original song category, while three of my foreign favorites (A Separation, The Kid with a Bike and The Skin I Live In) all got their due.
