In the ever-mounting drama of the Snow White showdown, Relativity is grabbing headlines today with their latest step toward production. According to THR, lauded director Tarsem Singh (The Fall) has officially signed on to direct the Brett Ratner produced The Brothers Grimm: Snow White, which promises a dark turn that features thieving dwarfs and a dragon.
We’d previously reported Relativity had approached the director, who has just wrapped The Immortals, in hopes of making it to production between their co-producing frenemy, Universal, who has their own Snow White project in the works. Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman promises a heralded spec script and big name stars like Johnny Depp and Charlize Theron as the current favorites for the huntsman and the evil stepmother. With their director locked in, Relativity hopes to go into production on Brothers in March of 2011. While Universal has no set start date, there is speculation production could begin as early as January of 2011 to meet their projected release date of December 12, 2012.
