Did you know Eric Stoltz was originally cast as Marty McFly in Back to the Future, only to be fired after five weeks of shooting?
Yeah. It must have sucked for Stoltz when Michael J. Fox and Back to the Future blew up all over the place, and Stoltz moved on to star in Mask. You know, the movie where he had to wear a big Elephant Man style prosthetic head and got out-shined by Cher? I would definitely rather time travel in a DeLorean.
But, hey, at least not everyone knew about it, right?
Well they do now! Thanks to the release of the Back to the Future trilogy on Blu-ray, Deadline revealed the producers have pulled together the film’s producer, Steven Spielberg, director/co-writer Robert Zemeckis and co-writer Bob Gale, and asked them why they recast the lead so late into production.
You can check it out below – complete with Stoltz scenes.
Stoltz wasn’t funny enough. Now turn the knife counterclockwise by posting it online.
How do you think Stoltz’s Marty McFly would have been different than Fox’s?
