A slew of small news has surfaced over the last couple of days: Marc Webb’s Spider-man reboot is set to start shooting in December in L.A. to make a July 3rd, 2012 release date. Men in Black III is set to begin in September in New York. Director Barry Sonnenfeld is shooting for a May 25th, 2012 release [SuperHeroHype]

Meanwhile, Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life will not be ready for Venice or Toronto.

TIFF co-director Cameron Bailey spoke on the matter:

“It would be a lovely surprise, but we’re not holding our breath. We know he’s definitely still working on the film, and he’s tired of being pushed by people. We’ve backed off and Venice has backed off.” [The Playlist]

Hopes on a Venice/TIFF premiere were high after news of Malick’s film being 97% done and given a PG-13 rating. Even against its distributor Apparition’s near-collapse it seemed the film would make an early appearance. But then, it is Terrence Malick. The man takes his time. And it has been worth the wait every single time so far.
