Not to be confused with the other “White House under siege” movie coming out later this year, the first trailer for FilmDistrict’s Olympus Has Fallen has been released exclusively on Apple and has all the explosions/action you could hope for…as well as a little Morgan Freeman just for flavor. Check it out below and try not to yell “Yippie Ki Yay Motherf*cker” at the end of it.
The official synopsis is as follows:
When the White House (Secret Service Code: “Olympus”) is captured by a terrorist mastermind and the President is kidnapped, disgraced former Presidential guard Mike Banning finds himself trapped within the building. As our national security team scrambles to respond, they are forced to rely on Banning’s inside knowledge to help retake the White House, save the President, and avert an even bigger disaster.
Olympus Has Fallen is the sort of dumb action movie I would have expected in the wake of Die Hard‘s success, not almost 30 years after the fact (and with a remarkably similar basic plot to boot). That being said the trailer was pretty fun, and it looks like a role Gerard Butler wasn’t forced at gunpoint by his agent to take (unlike, say, everything else he’s done over the past few years), plus it has the director of Training Day, Antoine Fuqua, at the helm so that’s perhaps a promising signal. Check out the poster below.
Olympus Has Fallen, which co-stars Aaron Eckhart and Melissa Leo, opens everywhere on March 22nd.
