Zhang Yimou

It may not have made much of a splash here, but Zhang Yimou‘s The Great Wall has made nearly $330 million worldwide, and now he’s already started shooting his next project. Variety reports the director has begun production on Shadow, a historical epic that takes place in the Three Kingdoms era around mid-200s AD. Unfortunately, no details are revealed beyond that, but the cast includes Deng Chao, Zheng Kai, Wang Qianyuan, Hu Jun, Guan Xiaotong, Wu Lei and Wang Jingchun. With production underway, hopefully we’ll see it by next year.

chris-evansIn other news, Chris Evans has found the rare non-Captain America role. Deadline reports he’ll be leading Red Sea Diving Resort, a new drama from longtime Homeland writer-producer Gideon Raff. The film will follow Evans’ character, Ari Kidron, and his ragtag team’s involvement in rescuing Jewish people from Ethiopia and transporting them to Israel in 1981. With Evans currently filming Avengers: Infinity War, we imagine production will begin soon after that extensive shoot wraps up.

Lastly, after her arthouse horror feature Evolution, Lucile Hadzihalilovic is already prepping her follow-up. Cineuropa reports the project is titled La Reine des Neiges and the story will follow two teenage characters, Lucas and Rose, living in a small mountain village. They are both fascinated with the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale The Snow Queen, then years later they encounter a film shoot adaptation and when one of the characters disappears after falling for the lead actress in the film, the other runs after them. Considering Hadzihalilovic is still scripting the project, it might be awhile before we see it, but we can’t wait to see what’s sure to be her twisted take on Frozen.
