Mike Dougherty has slowly won a devoted fan following for his underseen horror anthology Trick ‘r Treat. In four deeply creepy interwoven tales with a strong ’80s horror influence, Dougherty blended ghoulish scares with a surprising sweetness to warn viewers of the importance of playing by the rules on Halloween…or else! While the film was cheated of a proper theatrical release, it found new life on DVD and on the web, as word of mouth spread the gospel of good scares. And it seems FearNet has caught on, dedicating the whole of their Halloween schedule to an all-day Trick ‘r Treat marathon.

To promote the event and celebrate his favorite holiday, Dougherty has crafted a new horror-comedy short cheekily titled “Making Friends.” It’s Frankenstein with a touch of Amelie whimsy, and includes a cameo by Trick ‘r Treat’s freaky little enforcer, Sam! [Source: Badass Digest.]

And as an additional treat, check Sam’s debut, Dougherty’s original animated short which inspired the full-length film:

Have you seen Trick ‘r Treat? Will you be checking it out this Halloween? What’s a Halloween rule you didn’t dare to break as a trick ‘r treater?
