A sweet spot for family entertainment, this December will bring a great deal of all-audience options during the holidays, but one of the safest bets looks to be Saving Mr. Banks. Coming from The Blind Side‘s John Lee Hancock, the film follows the struggles of Walt Disney (played by Tom Hanks) to obtain rights from P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson) for the book of Mary Poppins, which eventually led to the family classic.
We’ve now got the first official still from the film, which can be seen above thanks to Time Magazine, and features our two leads meeting for the first time in Disneyland in 1961. In an interview with magazine Thompson said, “She’s the most difficult person I’ve ever played,” as “she was a woman of quite eye-watering complexity and contradiction.” With a cast that also includes B.J. Novak, Colin Farrell, Bradley Whitford, Jason Schwartzman, Paul Giamatti, and Ruth Wilson, Saving Mr. Banks will open on December 20th, 2013 and in limited theaters the week before.
