All in various stages of production, we’ve got some casting updates for a trio of 2014 summer blockbusters this morning, all set to land in May 2014. The majority being revealed by the studio’s social media outlets, first up we’ve got word from director Marc Webb on day 38 of his currently shooting The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Revealed in a tweet (and photo above), with the joke, “A supposed rumor about a Dunder-Mifflin takeover of Oscorp?,” we can see The Office star B.J. Novak has joined the ensemble. There’s no details yet on what will likely be a minor comedic role, but you can see for yourself when the film arrives on May 2nd.
We’ve also got an update from Vulture that Matt Reeves is continuing to expand his cast of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, which already includes Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Gary Oldman. Joining the ensemble will be Arrested Development and The Descendants‘ Judy Greer, but not in a role you may have imagined. She’ll instead by jumping in a mo-cap suit to play the female chimp Cornelia. For those that recall, in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Cornelia was a potential love interest to Andy Serkis‘ Caesar. The film will also be arriving on May 23rd.
In between the above films, Gareth Edwards‘ follow-up to Monsters, WB’s Godzilla, will be arriving on May 16th and we’ve got a bit of a surprise casting addition. Revealed over on the official Facebook page, we can see our director alongside Akira Takarada, the famous actor who appeared in 1954’s Godzilla and dozens of films in the series since then. We’d have to imagine he’ll at least be taking part in a cameo here, joining Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, Ken Watanabe and David Strathairn.
