Last week, Colin Farrell discussed one of his finest performances, in Terrence Malick‘s The New World, and now he’s back this week with another career highlight as the lead of Yorgos Lanthimos‘ darkly funny, dystopic rom-com The Lobster. With the film — which we named one of the year’s best so far — arriving on Blu-ray today, we’re pleased to debut an exclusive clip, featuring the actor discuss his character of David, and what makes him unique in his career.
“I realized a couple of weeks ago that I’ve never played anyone that has such a distinct lack of self-awareness as David, which his really lovely,” he says. “There’s no self-evaluation. There’s no internalized argument with the self. He’s just existing. He’s just going where life or the system or the rules or the circumstance dictates he has to go.” Check out the exclusive clip below, along with our discussion of the film, and make sure to pick up the film on Blu-ray, as it’ll be like nothing else you see this year.
In this highly imaginative, delightfully absurdist comedy, Colin Farrell stars as David, a man who has just been dumped by his wife. To make matters worse, David lives in a society where single people have 45 days to find true love, or else they are turned into the animal of their choice and released into the woods. David is kept at the mysterious HOTEL while he searches for a new partner, and after several romantic misadventures, decides to make a daring escape to abandon this world. He ultimately joins up with a rebel faction known as The Loners, a group founded on a complete rejection of romance. But once there, David meets an enigmatic stranger (Rachel Weisz) who stirs up unexpected and strong feelings within him.
The Lobster is now available on Blu-ray.
