Cloudy With a Chance of Meatball directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are prepping their jump into live-action with a film adaption of the popular TV series 21 Jump Street. With Jonah Hill, who co-wrote the screenplay, already attached to star, Deadline is reporting another possible lead.

Channing Tatum (Public Enemies, Dear John) is the frontrunner star next to Jonah Hill. The reason being “they matched up well” and “both look youthful, which helps since the film is about undercover officers who infiltrate schools to fight crime.” Sounds like reason enough. Emma Stone, who recently landed the lead in Marc Webb‘s Spider-Man reboot, is rumored to join.

The original 103-episode series ran from 1987 to 1991 and was a launchpad for Johnny Depp’s career. It is also rumored he may have a cameo here. Every single episode is available on Hulu. Tatum has actually shown some impressive work in Dito Montiel‘s two features, A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints and Fighting. He will star in his next, The Son of No One, as well as Steven Soderbergh‘s Haywire and Kevin Macdonald‘s The Eagle; all set for a 2011 release.

21 Jump Street will start production in the spring for a March 2012 release.
