The latest from J.J. Abrams is easily my most-anticipated blockbuster of the year. Last week I was able to see 22 minutes of Super 8 and I shared my detailed thoughts here. We now have a new TV spot/trailer that aired during the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards last night. The 1-minute spot reveals a few pieces of new footage, mostly from what I saw. Check it out below via TheMovieBox and read further for more context.

  • 11 seconds in we see an exchange between the two child leads. One says “we’re filming tonight. Midnight, OK? Don’t forget.” This takes place in the first ten minutes of the film and these two kids live across the street from each-other.
  • 31 seconds in we see a new shot of the kids listening to the bloodied man in a car. This happens directly after the massive train explosion/derailment. The man saying “don’t speak of this” is the one that drove on the tracks unto the oncoming train. He is their biology teacher Mr. Woodward, who is tied up in this conspiracy of whatever Area 51 is transporting, and has now lost.
  • 36 seconds in we see a garbage dump sliding across a parking lot. This takes place the same scene we saw in the earlier trailer, where a person gets pulled across the convenience store floor. Before that all happens, a police man is outside and gets attacked by the creature. The garbage dump flying is the first action of the scene, after we hear noises.

Super 8 stars Elle Fanning, Kyle Chandler, Ron Eldard, Noah Emmerich, Gabriel Basson, Joel Courtney, Ryan Lee, Zach Mills and Amanda Michalka. LA Times also spoke with the group of child actor newcomers last night and you can see that video below.

Synopsis: In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth – something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.

Super 8 hits theaters June 10th, 2011.
