While this summer’s Guardians of the Galaxy, helmed by James Gunn, will hopefully signal a weirder, less cookie-cutter, and all-together welcome new approach for Marvel when it comes to their superhero tentpoles, a year later we’ll have the debut of what’s easily our most-anticipated project from the studio. After developing the film for years, Edgar Wright will have his chance to shoot Ant-Man this year, and our cast is finally coming together.
As to be expected when it comes to the director behind Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and the Cornetto trilogy, the ensemble has already caught our attention just two names deep. We got confirmation late last year that Paul Rudd will be taking the role of Scott Lang, the second man to don the Ant-Man moniker. Now, Marvel confirms that Michael Douglas will be the first, having been set in the role of Hank Pym, a scientist who invents a substance which allows him to change his size and communicate with insects.
“With Hank Pym’s rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves,” said Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. “We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn’t be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life.”
Ant-Man lands on July 31st, 2015.
Are you encouraged by the way Wright’s cast is coming together?
