After slowly rolling out to a handful of theaters the last couple of weeks, Fox Searchlight will greatly expand Steve McQueen‘s masterpiece 12 Years a Slave this coming weekend and in anticipation, they’ve released the official soundtrack from the drama. Featuring a few tracks from composer Hans Zimmer, there’s also selections from a variety of artists, curated by John Legend and including Chris Cornell, Alicia Keys, Gary Clark Jr., Alabama Shakes, Cody Chesnutt and more.
Premiering over at Rolling Stone, Cornell talked a bit about the recording of his track “Misery Chain,” saying, “I was moved by this film and the story in a way that transcends any film experience I have ever had I was inspired to write a hundred different songs, but finally landed on one based on what I believe is an extremely important message I took from this man’s journey. Compassion, basic human rights and love must be our priorities above race, religion or commerce. Every generation needs a reminder of that simple idea.” Check out the full soundtrack below and pick it up over on Amazon when it’s officially released on November 11th.
12 Years a Slave is now in theaters and expands further this weekend.
