After months of rumors, it’s official. Director of Darkness Falls, The Killing Room, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning and the upcoming Battle: Los Angeles, Jonathan Liebesman, has officially signed on to direct the Clash of the Titans sequel. Leads Sam Worthington and Gemma Arterton are “expected” to return. [Heat Vision]

Although Warner Brothers completely butchered the 3D, Clash of the Titans ended up grossing nearly $500m worldwide. They have at least learned from their past mistakes and are looking to shoot in 3D. Greg Berlanti (The Green Lantern), Dan Mazeau (the in development The Flash and Jonny Quest) and David Leslie Johnson (The Girl With the Red Riding Hood) have all had their hand in the script.

As for Liebesman, I barely remember Darkness Falls, but I’ve heard The Killing Room is quite good. The only proof of Battle: Los Angeles is the 4-second teaser below. WB seems to have a lot of faith in Liebesman, which is a good sign for the upcoming alien invasion film. After the mediocre outing of Clash of the Titans, I have very little interest in a sequel. Hopefully this spring, Liebesman changes my mind. Check out the teaser below and an interview w/ the director our writer Jack Giroux did at Comic-Con.

Battle: Los Angeles hits theaters March 11th, 2011.
