mortdecai

Aside from a certain comedy cameo, it’s been a rough few years for Johnny Depp, critically speaking. With diminishing returns on both his Tim Burton collaborations and appearances as Jack Sparrow (as well as a few bombs in between), earlier this year we hoped the sci-fi film Transcendence would usher in a new era, but, well, we all know how that turned out.

The actor will now have another chance to redeem himself early next year when Mortdecai hits theaters. Based on the books by Kyril Bonfiglioli, the film is directed by David Koepp, and the first teaser trailer has landed today. Snappy and somewhat fun, it introduces us to the globe-spanning adventure that finds Depp’s character on the hunt to recover a stolen painting. Also starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Olivia Munn, Jeff Goldblum, and Paul Bettany, check out the trailer below.

Juggling some angry Russians, the British Mi5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist, debonair art dealer and part time rogue Charlie Mortdecai (Johnny Depp) must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.

Mortdecai hits theaters on February 6th.
