In the non-stop barrage of critics and awards groups’ rankings of the best films of 2013, there are a few lists we do enjoy taking a gander at; one such is Film Comment and their annual end-of-the-year survey. Comprised of 120 participants, including film critics, journalists, film section editors, and past and present contributors, it’s a rundown we usually find ourselves agreeing with more than most.
Topping the list this year is Inside Llewyn Davis, the latest work from Joel and Ethan Coen, while films that seem to be getting overlooked at this time of year — Passion, Museum Hours, A Touch of Sin, Leviathan, Bastards and To the Wonder, to name a few — are all recognized.
