Although he made a big splash playing Specialist Owen Eldridge in The Hurt Locker, I haven’t really heard much about Brian Geraghty in the time since. Sure, he’s had numerous bit parts in various films over the years, but nothing that tops his performance in the 6-time Oscar winning film. Maybe this news will change things, as THR says the actor has been cast to lead the indie picture Kilimanjaro.
Written and directed by Walter Strafford, the film, as you may have guessed, centers “on a man who is determined to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro after a recent breakup.” Geraghty will most obviously be playing said man, with a shoot starting sometime next month. This marks Strafford‘s feature length debut — he has directed various shorts, including Tilting at Windmills and, most recently, Weekend Plans.
I actually re-watched The Hurt Locker just last week, so this is pretty intriguing news for me. Although Jeremy Renner somewhat stole the show with his role as Sergeant William James, the work of Geraghty — and even Anthony Mackie — were still on par. He will be seen next in the thriller ATM, as well as Robert Zemeckis’ Flight, and Gay Dude, all of which are out later this year.
