Here’s some “duh” news for the day; in an interview with Time Out London to promote her upcoming movie Restless, actress Hayley Atwell confirmed that she will not be reprising her role as Peggy Carter in the 2014 Marvel Studios sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier. If for some reason you haven’t seen 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, Carter was the 1940’s love interest of Steve Rogers/Cap (Chris Evans) and considering the sequel takes place in the present day there wouldn’t be much Atwell could do without either prosthetics or a wedged-in flashback/dream sequence.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier, directed by frequent Community and Arrested Development helmers Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, hits theaters April 4th, 2014 with Evans reprising the leading role and Sebastian Stan stepping in as Cap’s former sidekick turned soviet assassin The Winter Soldier. There’s also been many rumors regarding who will take up the new female lead role — including Imogen Poots, Alison Brie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and more — so with a spring production gearing up, check back soon for who nabs the spot.
