The internet has been endlessly abuzz about who will get cast, and more importantly to this writer, who will actually direct an adaptation of E. L. James‘ erotic chart-topper Fifty Shades of Grey. After rumors swirled that the talented Joe Wright and Gus Van Sant were in contention, we’ve got word on who will definitely be handed the directing reigns.
According to a press release, the gig has been given to Sam Taylor-Johnson, who last directed the 2009 Nowhere Boy, tracking John Lennon‘s upbringing. That project also served as the break-out for Kick-Ass actor Aaron Johnson, who went on to marry the director following the production. Some reports indicate that this means he’ll be in contention for the role of 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey, but The Wrap reports that’s not the case. They even add that Noah’s post-production duties caused Darren Aronofsky to decline the gig after he was offered.
Adapted by Kelly Marcel, the film will track the aforementioned character’s relationship with college student Anastasia Steele (which is being rumored for Felicity Jones) and will be produced by The Social Network duo Dana Brunetti and Michael De Luca.
