After finding success with his modestly budgeted Ethan Hawke-led horror film Sinister, Scott Derrickson will return this summer with another in the genre. This time recruiting the talents of Eric Bana to lead, Deliver Us From Evil follows the actor as a NYC cop who begins to unravel disturbing, supernatural crimes taking place, with the help of Carlos star Edgar Ramirez, playing a priest.

The first trailer has now landed today, and taking a page from successful horror previews, it gives us a glimpse of the story before diving into what’s essentially an extended scene or two from the film. In DELIVER US FROM EVIL, New York police officer Ralph Sarchie (Eric Bana), struggling with his own personal issues, begins investigating a series of disturbing and inexplicable crimes. He joins forces with an unconventional priest (Edgar Ramírez), schooled in the rituals of exorcism, to combat the frightening and demonic possessions that are terrorizing their city. Inspired by the book, which details Sarchie’s bone-chilling real-life cases.

Deliver Us From Evil opens on July 2nd.
