Elizabeth: The Golden Age director, Shekhar Kapur has signed on to direct the adaptation of Marin Amis‘ mystery novel London Fields. According to THR, the film will be produced by Muse Productions’ Chris Hanley as well as Jordan Gertner and Mary Vernieu.
London Fields is narrated by American writer Samson Young, who has bad horrible writer’s block for upwards of 20 years and is terminally ill. Another main character, Nicola Six, goes on a quest to find her murderer. The novel employs very deep and dark elements, with a bit of black comedy thrown in the mix.
Various directors have been attached to London Fields in the past including, David Cronenberg and Michael Winterbottom. Kupar told THR that he is “looking forward to this project because [he] have never directed a murder mystery before.” This could definitely be a chance for Kupar to stray away from the costume dramas he is known for and delve into a gritty, more real film world.
Kupar is currently working on the futuristic film set in Mumbai titled Paani, as well as the George Mallory biography Mallory. He is also in beginning stages of a third Elizabeth installment. The release and production dates for London Fields are still to be determined.
Do you think Kapur is a good directing match for London Fields?
