Sometimes you have to wonder if Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson ever sleeps. With a big year ahead of him at the multiplex, as well as his current long-form return to the WWE, I don’t know how he manages to just keep going and going without suffering a Dave Chapelle-style nervous breakdown. And now it looks like he has another movie to add to his plate, albeit in a potentially smaller way.
Heat Vision reports that Johnson is on board to produce what they’re calling a “Teddy Bear movie” for New Line Cinema alongside Beau Flynn (a prolific producer who was involved with 2012’s Journey 2: The Mysterious Island which co-starred Johnson). Apparently, instead of a script or a pitch or anything like that, New Line was swayed by an illustration from fantasy artist Alex Panagopoulos which depicts a teddy bear, sword and all, defending a little girl from a monster as she sleeps. You can check the illustration below, titled “Sweet Halloween Dreams”, courtesy of Panagopoulos’ DeviantArt page.
The plot to this, sigh, “Teddy Bear movie” is under wraps and no writer has been hired to flesh the story out quite yet. Johnson is currently only slated to produce but given the fact that he can’t sit still for five seconds (I mean that as a compliment) there’s always the chance he decides to take a role in the movie as well. But if you’re hurting for more Dwayne Johnson in your life, 2013 is your year as he’ll be in at least four movies in the next twelve months (Snitch, GI Joe: Retaliation, Pain & Gain, and Fast 6) in addition to appearing on WWE television as The Rock from now until at least Wrestlemania 29 in April.
Any thoughts on the illustration? Do you think they can make an interesting movie based around it?
