I reported just a few hours ago that Italian actor Franco Nero leaked the news that he’d be appearing in a spaghetti western, which Quentin Tarantino would be somehow involved in. Now, AICN has dug up some exciting news – Tarantino is indeed directing a spaghetti western next, and it will star his Oscar-winning Inglourious Basterds villain, Christoph Waltz. Here’s what Beaks has found out:
Here are three things I can confirm: 1) Quentin Tarantino’s next film is a spaghetti western, 2) Christoph Waltz is “one of the stars”, and 3) that title is completely wrong (even if it got completely mangled by Google Translate, it’s still not even close). I cannot confirm plot details at present (though I think I’ve got the premise).
I’ve heard the plan is to shoot the film in Italy and Spain later this year.
Ever since Reservoir Dogs, Tarantino has seemingly been taking the tired genres he loves and pumping new life into them, be it a straight-forward crime thriller (Dogs), a new twist on the slasher film (Death Proof), or a revenge/kung-fu flick (Kill Bill).
We don’t know the title or premise, but with QT directing a marvelous scenery-chewer like Waltz in a Sergio Leone-style western? I’m in. More details as they emerge.
If you were to hand Tarantino a Leone flick to remake, what would it be?
